Victor "Jim" Ortiz, 68, of Davenport, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Genesis East, Davenport.
Services in celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, with Pastor Amy Diller officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Jim was born in 1948, in Moline, the son of Arthur and Pauline Ortiz. He married Sharon Redmond on Sept. 16, 1988.
He retired as patrol sergeant with the Rock Island Police Department after 30 years on the force. He enjoyed spending time with family, seeing movies, having breakfast at Harlan's with the gang and time with his beloved dog, Twinkie.
Survivors include his children, Jason A. Ortiz, Mica E. (Josh) Spicer and Steve (Anne) Barnes; grandchildren, Pauline Shepard, Andrew Ortiz, Jason Ortiz Jr., Tyson Spicer, Rachel Spicer, Aubree Barnes, Alec Pilon and Brett Fowler; sister, Carol Ortiz; and brother, Pete (Ann) Ortiz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; parents; and two brothers, Art Ortiz and Dick Ortiz.
