Curtis T. Edgerson, 71, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at his home surrounded by family. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Curtis was born in Dermott, Ark., on Feb. 3, 1948, a son of Booker Sr. and Mattie Brazier Edgerson. Curtis was a U.S. Army veteran, where he received a National Defense Service Medal and was an expert marksman specializing with the M-14 rifle.
Curtis worked at Oscar Mayer as a line lead and later as a substitute teacher for Thurgood Marshall, Rock Island.
Curtis was a member of Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. He enjoyed dancing, being outdoors and gardening.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Jessica (Dwayne) McNeal, Rock Island, and Justin (Jacqueline) Edgerson, Davenport; grandchildren, Alayah Edgerson, Doniere McNeal, Shannon McNeal, Jaleeyah McNeal, Jossah McNeal, Jomi McNeal, Jacquez Vesey and Justin Edgerson II; great-grandson, Jacquez Vesey II; brother, Booker Edgerson; sister, Cora Ballard; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hilliard Edgerson.
